Top 10 Travel Tips for Staying Safe! from Asda Travel Insurance
The key to a safe holiday is often in the preparation – if you follow these safety tips and go with your eyes wide open, then that relaxation you’ve been waiting for all year will come naturally….
1. Stay safe abroad with an EHIC card! This entitles you to free or reduced-cost medical treatment in many European countries. You can apply here.
2. Get holiday insurance. It’s hard to tell what’s good and what’s not, but it’s always best to read the small print to make sure you’re getting the right cover at the right price. Asda Travel Insurance offers trip and annual covers dependant on your needs and budget, and includes cover for couples from £9, baggage and cancellation included as standard and unlimited medical expenses.
3. Visit the Foreign Office’s ‘Know Before You Go’ website to check out anything else you need to know for visiting a specific country.
4. If you’re going far, travel vaccines are a necessary evil. Your local in-store Asda Pharmacy will also be able to help you with anti-malaria medication at a great price.
5. Get Travel Money before you get to the airport, as this will often get you the most for your £. When you do exchange, try to take a mixture of currency and travellers cheques.
6. Bring suncream for yourself and any children, of a minimum of Factor 15. PLUS don’t forget any topical treatments or medication – a change in climate can often re-energise old complaints. Again, Asda Pharmacy can often help with these.
7. Make sure you have durable, easily visible luggage tags on every item. Just remember, if your luggage tags have your address on them, then carry your housekeys separately!
8. To keep your travel money safe on holiday, it’s worth carrying a waistbag or pouch underneath your clothes, but keep some money separate so that you don’t need to draw attention to it too often. Many hotels will also have a locked safe in which you can keep passports etc.
9. Stick to bottled water; avoid unpeeled vegetables/fruit and ice in your drinks. Be very careful with any food that you’re not sure about, particularly shellfish and fish.
10. Don’t drink too much on holiday…and if you are going to drink, then stay in groups and with your friends or family. Stay in well-lit or tourist areas and don’t go off the beaten track when you’ve had a sherry. Plus – remember if you’ve been drinking in the sun, to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
